Exorbitant parking rates!

Parking Rate Card

Parking Rate Card

Did anyone have any comments on parking rates – especially those around Klang Valley? Since my office has been for the past many years, located in the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur, I have noticed that the parking rates here are high rising. One of them where I am parking now…used to be RM3 per entry (3 years ago) and is now RM5.50.

And talking about per entry, does it really mean per ONE entry? What if I park my car there for 3 days, still it is considered per entry right? (Comments are welcomed at the comments section below).
Ok, I have to complain about this particular parking in a high-rise building in downtown KL.
Scenario:
Ticket stamp entry at 16:45 = 4.45pm.
When inserted into ticket machine, machine stamp exit at 17:42 = 5.42pm.
That’s 3 mins to 1 hour right? And I did enter before 5pm right?
Question: How much should I pay for the parking?

The machine shows RM5.00!!!!! Being in and out of this building quite often recently, I knew I have to exit before 1 hour to avoid the exorbitant charge (I exited 4 mins late the other day and was charged RM4 extra that equates to RM1 per minute…sigh!) but alas, rushing to exit has no effect… I think the machine overcharge me RM3! Complaining to the guards and staff there is to no avail, one pointing to another, and the final one who answers says “after 5pm, charge is RM3” – but hellooo…. I ENTER BEFORE 5pm!!
Secure Parking, if you read this; please relook at your machine programming!

Road Sign Board

I wonder how many people out there who have been driving on the road notice this little sign just below the traffic light…. this picture was taken at the ever busy intersection between Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Ampang. What does this sign means? Logically (at least to me!), it tells us to ignore the traffic lights, that is, even if its red, you can still turn left if there are no on coming vehicles. During peak hours, skittles would have been placed at the corner to cordon off and indicates that you can turn left anytime; even if you don’t, the traffic police will instruct you to turn – listen, don’t hog the left lane if you want to turn right!

However, I realized that during normal hours, nobody seems to see or notice the sign at all. Or was it because no one knows what it means? Most people will just wait for the lights to turn green. Some honking may be heard, but still there will be no action until the lights turn green. Pure ignorance? Perhaps people really don’t understand what it means? Anyone who knows are welcome to comments.

The Hydrogen Fuelsaver Technology

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

How does it work? Or rather does it work at all? How real is it? It is undeniable that the hype is even higher right after the increase in petrol price, however, the technology, the talk, the research has been around since some time ago.

We gather some info from a local company who strongly support the techonology which also saves the environment.

Anthony Ng, Managing Director of Hydrogen Fuelsaver Sdn. Bhd. quoted:

We at Hydrogen Fuelsaver are proud to support the World’s commitment to better environmental policies and I believe that water will become the main source of energy for mankind for many decades to come.”

How does it work?

The Hydrogen Fuelsaver Generator will use a small amount of current from the vehicle to allow the process of electrolysis to work in the generator. The electrical current will pass through the Hydrogen Fuelsaver’s patented electrolytic cells to allow for the breaking of the water molecules into Oxygen and Hydrogen gas. The gases are then used by injecting it into the engine.

The Hydrogen Fuelsaver generator is controlled and maintained by a Hydrogen Fuelsaver Hydrogen Management Unit which will control the oxyhydrogen production and air/fuel and hydrogen/fuel mixtures to obtain the highest efficiency in burning of the fuel within the engine. Together with the Hydrogen Fuelsaver Hydrogen Management unit the car uses 70% fuel and 30% oxyhydrogen.

Hydrogen gas has a greater flame speed than that of any fuel and improves flame propagation inside the cylinder. With hydrogen enhancement, engines run cooler, cleaner, and extract more useful energy. OxyHydrogen gas is a near perfect energy carrier and burns so efficiently that when combined with oxygen the flame is almost invisible to the naked eye (pale blue flame). It has the highest combustion energy release per unit of weigh of any other common occurring material and is used in rocket fuel because of this property.

Hydrogen Fuelsaver is the first step towards the future and our company believes strongly that oxyhydrogen gas is one of the fuels of the future. As further research and development is done, cars that will run on water alone is in the very near future.

How does it look like?

Operating Requirements

Operation of the Hydrogen Fuelsaver System requires 1 litre of distilled water for 1000km of travel. The Hydrogen Fuelsaver unit has a large, 1.5 litre water tank capacity. The unit is designed and manufactured to SAE J1455 standards for: extreme temperature, shock, pressure, humidity, vibration, salt, fog, sand and dust.

Paintless Dent Repair

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Dent Repair processDent Repair (DR) or Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is a unique method of removing dents or humps from cars without paint re-spraying. The original paint of the car is maintained. It specializes in removing small dents or humps using tool kits that are specially designed for this purpose. The tool kits are used to locate the exact spot on the dent or hump and then using the right method to remove it.

Tool Kits for removing dent and humps

This process requires a high degree of perfection using the combination of eye and hands movement which complement each other in a trained manner.

Dent Repair process

This technique is not new. It has been adopted over 20 years by automotive manufacturer in foreign countries to repair minor damage on the assembly line.

DR (as in Dent Repair!) Jerry Wong was specially trained in London, U.K. for six months theoretically and practically and he runs Dent Repair Sdn Bhd. He has vast experience in the dent/hump removal techniques on all cars. Jerry also takes great care in selecting high quality staff that undergoes stringent and rigorous training before achieving the role of a DR Specialist. Many dents and dings can now be repaired without a trace, when the work is performed by a skilled technician. And techniques have developed to the point that dings can be removed with the original paint in place.

Today, I have used the services of the Dent removal specialist which have advertised here in AW. My car had a dent right at the sharp edge of a curve. Went over for a consultation and Jerry mentioned that he can repair it till 70% perfect as the dent is at the edge. Since the dent was quite obvious, I gave him the go ahead. After about an hour, I can say I was satisfied with the result. I shall say, he did 85% correction instead of his 70% quote. It’s hardly noticeable for someone who didn’t know where the dent was.

CERAMICO heat and lubricant management

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

CERAMICO offers a wide range of high-technology ceramic coatings that protect components against the effects of heat, wear, abrasion and oxidation. We provide packaged thermal barriers that can be applied to metals and composites to deliver one of the highest currently available thermal performances, with exceptional durability in a wide range of highly aggressive environments.

Ceramico

CERAMICO’s ThermoIns coatings can protect heat sensitive components, improve safety and, in automotive applications, increase engine performance. For any heat management issue, CERAMICO’s technical specialists can provide solutions and advice no matter how demanding the requirements.

CERAMICO’s most common applications include exhaust coating, manifold coating, turbo housing coating which can withstand up to 2000F and composite coating. Coating these components can:

  • Reduce Under bonnet temperatures by up to 30ºC
  • Increase Engine Performance (HP & Torque)
  • Enhance Engine Reliability
  • Increase Fuel Economy

CERAMICO areas of expertise include:

  • Ceramic coatings for metals and composites including carbon fiber.
  • Thermal & Lubrication management in motorsport, OE, high performance, tracks day and classic cars.
  • Thermal, Lubrication & Corrosion management in numerous other demanding applications

Ceramic coatings fall into 4 general categories :

Dry Film Lubricants Coating
Dry Film Lubricants Coating also known as Solid Film Lubricants Coating. It provides a lubricating film that reduces friction, inhibits galling and seizing and in some instances can aid in dispersing heat. It’s slippery and provides an extremely low coefficient of friction.

The 2 most important components are the binders and lubricating ingredients. Without a good binder the coating will not stay in place and will simply cold flow or buff of in operation. Similar coatings using the same pigments but different binding systems can show a wide variation in load carrying abilities, ranging from 100,000 psi to over 350,000 psi. The pigments determine the actual lubricating potential. PTFE (Teflon), as example, is listed as having the lowest coefficient of friction (COE). However, under high speed and load, the COE of PTFE degrades while that of MOS2 (Moly) improves, until it is significantly better than PTFE. Selecting the proper ingredients can make or break a coating.

One of the obvious reasons for using a lubricating coating is to reduce friction, which improves wear, extends parts life and free up H.P. normally lost to friction. A second major benefit is a reduction in part temperature. This is especially important to such parts as valve spring. Here the pigment choice is critical as certain ingredients can trap heat in part.

Thermal Barrier Coatings
Thermal Barrier Coatings are designed to reduce the movement of the heat. In some instances, such as exhaust systems, you want to keep the heat within the part. In combustion chambers you want to use the heat generated by combustion to push down on the piston rather than bleed off into surrounding surfaces. Due to continued testing we are leaning that simple thermal barrier action is not the only characteristic that is important. In fact TBC’s will move an engine into detonation. TBC coatings can be made from a variety of materials. Ceramics get the most attention, though there are other materials that are superior in specific applications. The proper choice is critical to the overall function of the coating.

Thermal Dispersant Coatings
Being able to move and control heat is of tremendous importance. Excessive temperature can led to metal fatigue, boiling fluids, damaging metal expansion, reduce electrical efficiency and a host of other problems. Traditionally dealing with heat has been handled either by expanding the radiating surface, constructing parts from materials that are more heat conductive and using the color black. With advances in thermal management methods additional ways of enhancing heat transfer now exist. Thermal Dispersant Coatings can be utilized by themselves or in conjunction with other coatings to manage the flow of heat. TDC is capable of transferring heat faster than the bare metal surface. While TDC does make use of the color black, TDC is more than a simple ‘black body’ heat emitting coating. TDC includes ingredients that also contribute to increased heat flow. Combining these properties with increased corrosion protection and the thin film application technique maximizes thermal transfer capabilities. Effective on Braking system, Intake Manifolds, Cylinder Heads, Oil Pans and, Conrods and ….more.

Corrosion & Chemical Inhibiting Coatings
The lost of effectiveness, reduction in part life and deteriorating appearance due to corrosion/chemical damage is of real concern. Loosing a well matched/tuned header to rust is not only expensive, but frustrating. A good aluminum manifold can become junk if the water inlet area corrodes excessively. Keeping components clean and attractive is of concern when promoting your vehicle or the parts you manufacture to potential sponsors or customer.

Benefits:

Heat Insulation
Metal failure due to over heat. CERAMICO provide effective heat insulation to reduce surrounding compartment heat which will help to:· Improve surrounding parts life and working efficiency and performance, Improve fuel economy due to HP & Torque increase

Heat Dissipation
Metal failure due to over heat. CERAMICO provide effective heat dissipation to reduce the heat in the part which will help to improve parts working efficiency, performance and life-span.

Improve Lubrication
Lubricating and maintaining such lubrication is critical to those friction parts (bearing)

- Improve lubrication
- Improve parts life
- Save energy
Corrosion Protection

Metal parts failure due to corrosion attack. CERAMICO provide corrosion resistance insulation to:

- Improve parts reliability
- Improve product quality ( metal melting process )
- Save energy

Where to apply the coating?

As long as you have any heat, lubrication or corrosion problem on your engine or machine metal parts. CERAMICO will help to improve it. CERAMICO provide ceramic coating that currently solves costly problem in multiple industries that arise from technology advances. Technology has allowed devices to be smaller, operate faster, higher and/or deeper, and perform better, safer and with less environmental impact. These technology advancements also create new challenges. Key emerging problems include:·

  • High heat generated by high speeds of machines.
  • Tensile strength and heat resistance of new composite materials.·
  • Corrosion and abrasion accruing in new areas of exploration (space, high altitude, water, extreme temperature conditions)·
  • Degradation and/or failure of common substrate materials from high acidic and heat conditions to meet new, aggressive federal pollution mandates.·
  • Friction and abrasion created by miniaturization.·
  • Materials degradation from high speed manufacturing system causing heat, bonding etc.

Harnessing The Power of Sunlight as an Air Purifying Solution

The Cleaning Process

ARC FlashThe warm and humid tropical climate in Malaysia and the rest of the Southeast Asian region, creates prime breeding ground for harmful bacterial, yeast and viral organisms. This can aggravate allergies of the sinus, skin and eyes, as well as particularly increase the risk of contagious air-borne diseases such as tuberculosis and SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome).

In the recent years, consumers have been flooded with an influx of air purifier products – ranging from compact air ionizers to air-conditioners which kill harmful organisms in the air. Well-intended as they are created to be, these products are limited to their areas of application and require hardware installation as well as periodical maintenance.
Product and equipment
But with the ARC FLASH Nanotech Photo-catalyst, consumers here can now enjoy the high quality clean air and environmental protection which have been enjoyed by residents in Japan, USA, Taiwan and Hong Kong. ARC FLASH photo-catalytic is a colorless liquid coating with 30% nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) as its main ingredient. As a semi-conducting photo-catalyst, TiO2 lowers the chemical activation energy to enhance chemical reaction or accelerate the reaction rate under photo-irradiation. However, TiO 2 does not decompose or degrade from any resulting chemical reaction due to photo-irradiation.

ARC FLASH is as innovative as it is convenient without requiring hardware installation and periodical maintenance. Application is easy – spraying the liquid paint onto the intended surfaces using the ARC FLASH special spray gun. While pre-treatment of cleaning the surfaces with u-Clean soap is optional, it is required to cover reflective surfaces especially mirrors before spraying ARC FLASH as the liquid photo-catalyst causes a slightly matte-like effect which distorts vision. Suitable applications for ARC FLASH are especially the interiors of residences, offices, healthcare institutions and automobiles.

Suitable surfaces within buildings to apply ARC FLASH would be ceilings and walls, as with car seats, dashboards and side panels in a car surfaces. When TiO 2 is exposed to UV radiation from sunlight or other illuminated light sources, this maximises the oxidization capabilities of TiO2 to degrade the harmful micro-organisms in a process similar to photosynthesis. This thus produces purified air which is 99.97% bacteria-free.

Besides its hassle-free application process, ARC FLASH is odourless and non-toxic, while being self-disinfectant, self-deodorising and protecting the treated surfaces from stains after application during its effective treatment period. ARC FLASH uses a quick-drying binder that hardens and is water-insoluble after 10-14 days after the treatment date. Therefore, it is advised that the treated surfaces not be cleaned or affected in any way from interference of other chemical cleaning products during this period of time while the TiO 2 is hardening on the treated areas.Application Process See here to find out how it works really. http://www.arcflash-intl.com.my/howitworks.htm

Each automotive application costs RM290 to RM580 with treatments for buildings costing between RM2.50 to RM3.00 per square feet (psf) of the total buiild up area. Every automotive application lasts 2.5 years, with treatments in building lasting 5 years. Therefore, each ARC FLASH treatment is backed with a warranty of similar duration according to their areas of application. Currently supplied from 12 outlets nationwide in Malaysia including Sabah and Sarawak, ARC FLASH is also supplied to Brunei, Indonesia and Cambodia in the Southeast Asian region. The company is continously expanding to the rest of South East Asian market and is also looking for sales agents and distributors nationwide locally in Malaysia.

To date, notable business premises the likes of Menara TM, OCBC (Kluang branch), Palace of The Golden Horses (a few rooms), the executive level (smoking area) of the Shang-ri La Kuala Lumpur and AEROLINE buses (plying the KL – Singapore route) have been treated with ARC FLASH. For more enquiries and services, please contact Mr. Wong Weng Heng at 012-283 4298 or email to arcflashcorp.my@gmail.com or visit the official ARC FLASH website at http://www.ArcFlash-intl.com.Talk about it in Autoworld Forum - Auto Detailing forum .

Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicles in the US

Friday, July 18th, 2008

<extracted from MSN Autos>

View Full article here: MSN Autos

First Place: 2008 Toyota Prius

2008 Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius, the gold standard for fuel economy, is a bit like steamed broccoli: utterly insipid but wholesome just the same. Iconic status was guaranteed when Hollywood types with air-conditioned mega-mansions trotted out Priuses as their green beards, even before the car was immortalized with its own episode of South Park. An anodyne ownership experience includes tepid acceleration, numb steering and nonlinear brakes. Of note are the unbeatable fuel economy, the impressively low price, and the unique, futuristic lines that house a large amount of usable space. Stay tuned for the next-generation Prius and a plug-in version, which will further increase fuel economy, in 2011.

Second Place: 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid

2008 Honda Civic Hybrid The Prius’s main contender is the Civic Hybrid, a more quotidian approach to economical hybrid transportation. In rendering the hybrid more aerodynamic, Honda also made it one of the better-looking Civic offerings, more likely to appeal to those who don’t need to wear their environmentalism on their lapel — although this might be part of the reason it hasn’t seen nearly the sales success of the Prius. The Civic Hybrid drives more like a regular car than the competition, is a more responsive handler and is a touch less sluggish. The Civic’s hybrid system is simple and compact but doesn’t deliver quite the miserly numbers of the Prius.

Third Place: 2008 Smart Fortwo

2008 Smart fortwo (© smart USA) A small sum of money gets you a Lilliputian car that returns the third-best fuel mileage of any vehicle here. The Smart Fortwo delivers solidly on its niche-market promise. It’s the ultimate urban vehicular solution as defined by stylish cachet, excellent fuel economy and — by virtue of being the smallest — being also the biggest gun in the parking wars. Your mileage may vary; ours did, with an average of four fewer mpg than the EPA’s combined number. Given that the Fortwo is the slowest-accelerating passenger vehicle in the country (say a Hail Mary before merging onto a freeway), a lead foot, with a resulting impact in fuel economy, is practically a safety requirement.

Fourth Place: 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid

2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid The Altima Hybrid is sold only in California and in the seven Eastern states that share the California Air Resources Board’s air-quality statutes, which is a shame because it delivers hybrid efficiency in a stylish, pleasurable-to-drive sedan. The Altima Hybrid delivers similar fuel economy numbers to those of the Camry Hybrid, which isn’t surprising considering Nissan licensed Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive for the effort. Paired with Nissan’s 2.5-liter gasoline engine, the Altima Hybrid returns performance numbers better than the standard model. It delivers on its sporty looks and design-forward interior with a fun, enthusiastic chassis and precise steering. If the name “Camry” makes your inner rebel cringe, you’d do well to consider the Altima Hybrid.

Fifth Place: 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid

2008 Toyota Camry HybridYellow paintbrush-wielding New York cabbies can’t be wrong. The Toyota Camry Hybrid is good at moving passengers economically and without drama. Unlike the Altima Hybrid, you can buy the Camry Hybrid nationwide. Hybridization did nothing to impact the virtues that make the Camry an award-winning, family-hauling appliance: laudable road manners, quiet and comfortable operation and a highly competent overall experience. Stepping up to the hybrid also begets stability control and the top-of-the-line XLE interior package, minus leather seats.

Sixth Place: 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI (© Robert J Pennington) The TDI, as equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, shines in highway driving, returning fuel economy on par with the air-hockey-table-sized Smart Fortwo. Diesel currently outpaces gasoline prices by about 20 percent, but the TDI betters the fuel economy of the next-thriftiest Jetta model by more than 30 percent. The SportWagen, although slightly more expensive than the sedan (pricing starts at $24,240), suffers no penalty in fuel economy. It offers more luggage volume than the Prius with just slightly less passenger volume while being good-looking and offering a driving experience that won’t approximate the work of an anesthesiologist. Both aesthetically and dynamically, the diesel-sipping Jetta TDI is engineered to be enjoyed by the user, not just employed.

Seventh Place: 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid

2009 Ford Escape Hybrid The lone American ranger in this group is the Ford Escape Hybrid, the roughest and tumblin’-est vehicle here, if mostly by posture. Refreshed for 2009, the Escape addresses many of the issues that made it an almost unacceptable compromise, including the anemic performance, punishing ride and poor brake feel. The stronger four-cylinder now boasts 177 horsepower in addition to its hybrid-electric drive; the revised suspension system includes a rear anti-roll bar; and the brakes feel something like normal. The Escape is a hybrid SUV with solid moves at an affordable price for which no excuses need be made. Although an official fuel economy rating has yet to be obtained for the new model, not much change is expected from 2008.

Eighth Place: 2008 Toyota Yaris

2008 Toyota Yaris It’s a happy day for consumers when one of the most-fuel-efficient vehicles sold is also one of the cheapest. The Yaris isn’t even too much of a slowpoke, scampering to 60 mph in fewer than nine seconds. If the petite Yaris seems more quirky than masculine, it’s because it was designed for markets where gas has always been expensive and where people say things like sauve qui peut. Those hoping for Lotus Elise–like reflexes or Gatsby-esque luxury will be disappointed, but those without champagne expectations will enjoy a plush ride and solid build quality. Despite a short wheelbase, the Yaris can transport deceptively large quantities of cargo.

Ninth Place: 2008 MINI Cooper/Clubman

2008 MINI Cooper S Clubman (© BMW North America) It’s not surprising that a small car designed and manufactured by BMW is a pleasurable thing, but that it’s extra miserly is icing on the strudel. Thanks to a recent redesign, a new 1.6-liter four-cylinder, slightly smaller dimensions and a new six-speed transmission conspire to produce good fuel efficiency, particularly on the highway, where an extra cog makes all the difference. The MINI Cooper and the slightly longer Clubman get the same fuel economy, so there’s no penalty for the latter other than greater expense and a reduced number of parking opportunities. Watch those options, though. Despite a reasonable $18,700 entry price, the last naturally aspirated MINI Cooper we tested cost as much as a Camry Hybrid.

Tenth Place: 2008 Honda Fit

2008 Honda Fit Sport We crowned the Honda Fit the best of seven inexpensive people movers in a recent comparison test because it makes us smile as few cars this affordable or stingy on gas can. Mini-minivan styling might not seduce the vain, but the upshot to odd proportions is oodles of usable space — this thing is like a clown’s bottomless suitcase. You’ll need to mate a five-speed manual transmission to the Fit’s 1.5-liter engine for the best mileage, but this is something you’ll want to do, anyway, if you view cloverleaves as opportunities rather than nuisances. In Sport form, the Fit serves up similar fun and more passenger and cargo room than either the MINI Cooper or Clubman, for almost $4000 less.

Shine N Shield With PPS Teflon Coating and Never Need to Wax Again

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

You must probably have heard or known Shine N Shield and PPS Teflon coating for auto paint protection from somewhere or by browsing through the Auto Detailing Section in Autoworld’s Forum as there are at least 3 hot and active topics all giving good comments about them since early 2005 until very recently. These topics never seem to die down but ever gaining popularity as more and more Autoworld’s members come to know them.

Surface coated with PPS

Shine N Shield was set up by one Raymond Tan who has been in the motoring related line for a long time. The reason that had prompted him to set up Shine N Shield was because he could hardly find a local car grooming company that could really give professional detailing service for the car lovers who wish to protect the good condition of their car paint and thus maintaining its shine and gloss for many years to come and who care about the condition and cleanliness of their car interior. All those that he could find were just doing a shabby polishing, waxing and cleaning job and in the process they may even do more damage to the car with the use of not properly trained staff, inferior quality wax, strong chemicals and detergents and abrasive polishing compounds and materials.

Coating process

Apart from using the best quality staff well trained in the polishing and detailing jobs Raymond had to also ensure that only the best quality paint protection is used. After an extensive worldwide search and many months of research and testing he had finally settled for the PPS Teflon coating to protect the car paint even though it is much costlier than any other paint protection products currently available in the market as PPS is the only US patented Teflon paint protection system in the whole world, military tested for use by the US marine and air-force and it has been proven that nothing else would actually beats PPS Teflon with regard to the protection against harmful uv rays, acid rains, bird droppings, tree saps, chemicals and all other environmental contaminants. The shine and deep gloss that it gives is also unmatched by the so called “best quality wax” and any other substitutes.

Surface coated with PPS

PPS Teflon coating uses a revolutionary technology (US patent no. 5,081,717) to bond and fuse the Teflon to the paint thereby providing a permanent protection to the paint and it is guaranteed by a 7 years warranty in the US and Canada.

For the car interior leather/vinyl and fabric protection against harmful uv rays, abrasion, spills and soils Raymond also has a range of quality PPS products that are not only material safe but also user friendly, non-toxic and non-hazardous.

In order to be the best among the competition, Raymond also made sure that apart from providing the best quality products and car detailings he also emphasized on providing best possible customers’ service, comfort and convenience as evidenced by the set up of cosy customers’ lounges with many amenities and providing chauffeur service for his customers.

Those who wish to know more about Shine N Shield and PPS Teflon coating may log onto www.shineNshield.com or contact Raymond Tan @016-323 8480.
